[Europe Special Line] Representatives from Multiple Central and Eastern European Countries Visit Chongqing, Hoping to Strengthen Cooperation in Science and Innovation
A delegation of over ten national coordinators for China-Central and Eastern European Countries Cooperation visited Chongqing, focusing on exchanges and alignment in areas such as logistics channels, intelligent connected new energy vehicles, and high-end medical equipment.
The Chongqing Railway Port China Railway United Container Chongqing Central Station is one of the departure stations for the China-Europe Railway Express. The Chongqing to Duisburg, Germany route radiates to Central and Eastern European countries like Hungary, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Croatia, with regular outbound and return services already established for the relevant countries. The delegation stated that Central and Eastern European countries and Chongqing have broad prospects for cooperation in international logistics, cross-border trade, and joint channel development.
At China Changan Automobile Group, the delegation examined Chongqing’s technological innovation, industrial chain support, and global layout in the intelligent connected new energy vehicle industry. The Slovak National Coordinator noted that cars of Chinese brands are already quite common on Slovak streets. The import volume of new energy vehicles is not large, mainly due to insufficient market readiness and incomplete supporting infrastructure, stating, “Slovakia should strengthen cooperation with China in the construction of infrastructure such as charging stations.”
At Chongqing Haifu Medical Technology Co., Ltd., the delegation learned about non-invasive focused ultrasound treatment technology and equipment, focusing on the potential for international cooperation in high-end medical equipment.
In 2025, the total import and export volume between Chongqing and Central and Eastern European countries reached 18.114 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.8%; in the first two months of 2026, the total import and export volume was 2.384 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 41.1%.
Chongqing and Central and Eastern European countries have a solid foundation for cooperation in fields like scientific and technological innovation. The establishment of research cooperation platforms such as the China-Hungary Technology Transfer Center (Chongqing) and the China (Chongqing)-Serbia Technology Transfer Center has expanded scientific and technological innovation cooperation between Chongqing and Central and Eastern European countries. Simultaneously, Southwest University is leading the construction of the China-Hungary Food Science “Belt and Road” Joint Laboratory, focusing on research in areas like food microbial resources, promoting joint technological breakthroughs between China, Hungary, and other participating countries.

It was developed as a key node in China’s Belt and Road Initiative, specifically for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, to streamline rail freight and container transport between China and Europe/Asia. This modern facility consolidates Chongqing’s historical role as a vital transportation and industrial center in Southwest China.

This center symbolizes the deepening strategic partnership between China and Serbia, aiming to drive mutual technological advancement and industrial development.
