Today, media reports revealed that the renowned basketball training organization ‘Oriental Rising Stars’ has suddenly halted operations. The main office in Beijing is tightly shut, and a temporary closure notice is posted. Reporters found during field investigations that several directly-run campuses of ‘Oriental Rising Stars’ in Guangzhou have also been ‘halted,’ with doors closed and classes suspended.
On the 21st, multiple parents informed reporters from New Flower City News Guangzhou, stating they have received notices from ‘Oriental Rising Stars’ coaches indicating an indefinite suspension of classes pending the resolution of pending salaries and operational matters, after which resumption of classes will be informed. It is understood that, besides parents unable to receive refunds for prepaid course fees, staff are also owed salaries.
On the morning of the 21st, reporters visited various campuses including Huanyu Tiandi, Binjiang East Road, and Tianhehui, observing they were all tightly locked with no business activity visible.
At the Huanyu Tiandi branch, a notice issued on May 20 by Guangzhou Dunk Masters Sports Culture Co., Ltd was posted at the entrance, stating that ‘Guangzhou Future Rising Stars Sports Culture Co., Ltd. has significantly breached the contract by repeatedly defaulting on our venue rental fees during training sessions,’ and declaring ‘effective immediately, termination of venue usage agreement with Guangzhou Future Rising Stars Sports Culture Co., Ltd., and pursuing related legal rights through legal channels.’ Business license information shows that Guangzhou Future Rising Stars Sports Culture Co., Ltd. is registered under the name of ‘Oriental Rising Stars.’
Inquiry revealed ‘Oriental Rising Stars’ has over twenty teaching points in Guangzhou, distributed across the city. The organization has been operating in Guangzhou for many years, with a high reputation and numerous students. Currently, many parents report that they prepaid thousands to tens of thousands in tuition fees without many classes verified yet, but now the organization has announced suspension of classes.
According to reporters, many parents have already organized groups to communicate, hoping to secure a refund of tuition fees, involving several million dollars as of the morning of May 21.
Recently, the founder of ‘Oriental Rising Stars,’ Ren Xing, responded via video to rumors, apologizing to everyone and promising ‘not to abscond, will face any issues indefinitely.’ In the video, Ren Xing also stated, ‘In the past two years, continuously seeking cooperation and support from all parties and, during difficult times, mortgaged all assets, took bank loans, borrowed money from family and friends, and injected 20 million into our campus operations and business development,’ sincerely requesting ‘a little more time’ and committing to ‘continue the fight.’
According to reports, relevant departments have already intervened in the issue. Many parents have lodged complaints and sought assistance from education and related departments where the organization operates. After becoming aware of the situation, the relevant departments patiently listen to parents’ calls, record parent information and outstanding amounts, and pledge to urge the organization to fulfill its responsibilities. However, the issue most concerning parents, the refund, may ultimately require legal resolution.

Guangzhou Headquarters Issues ‘Refund Explanation’ to Parents
On the afternoon of May 21, numerous parents went to the Oriental Rising Stars Guangzhou headquarters located in Tianhe District Zhihui PARK, Phase Two, demanding a tuition refund. The organization provided parents with a ‘Participant Refund Explanation’ detailing the amount paid and stating the ‘resolution method is a promise to refund by May 31, 2025.’
In response, some parents are skeptical, worried about the organization issuing ’empty promissory notes.’ However, there are also parents who express patience, observing the development of the situation, hoping the organization can honor its promise to refund. ‘If an investor is willing to take over the organization, that’s also a good option.’
