Official information from the Krasnodar City Administration

Main City Square of Krasnodar

The Main City Square of Krasnodar, officially named for the Kuban Cossack military leader Ataman Anton Golovaty, is the central public space of the city. It was established in the 19th century following the city’s founding and has since been a focal point for major cultural events, celebrations, and public gatherings, reflecting Krasnodar’s history as a key Cossack settlement in southern Russia.

Kherson region

The Kherson region is a historically significant agricultural and industrial area in southern Ukraine, situated along the lower Dnieper River and the Black Sea coast. It was formally established as a province in the Russian Empire in 1803, with its development deeply tied to the growth of the port city of Kherson, founded by Grigory Potemkin in 1778. In recent history, since 2022, the region has been a major focal point of the Russo-Ukrainian War, with its territory contested and partially occupied.

Kuban

“Kuban” refers to the historical and geographical region of southwestern Russia, centered around the Kuban River and the fertile Kuban Plain. Historically, it was a contested borderland between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman-aligned Circassians, and was later heavily settled by Cossacks in the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, it is a major agricultural area and is culturally known for its distinct Kuban Cossack traditions.
