Hyderabad: Man commits sacrilege at temple, enraged mob beats him severely; BJP calls it blasphemy.
A case has emerged in Hyderabad where a Muslim man allegedly desecrated a temple by defecating inside it. An angry crowd gathered outside the temple severely beat the man, who is reportedly named Altaf. Allegedly, the man entered the premises of the Katta Maisamma temple and defecated near the idol of the deity. When devotees learned that a 26-year-old man had attempted to destroy the sanctity of the temple by committing this filthy act near the deity’s idol, the crowd became enraged, caught the man, and beat him badly.
The incident of the man being beaten after the sacrilegious act in the temple compound gained traction, leading to protest demonstrations and political statements in the state. The incident came to light on Saturday night when the accused allegedly desecrated a sacred stone, the Bodarai, inside the temple complex. Local devotees present at the spot caught the person, and later a video went viral on social media showing the man being interrogated and beaten about the alleged act. Police appealed to the public to maintain peace and urged people not to believe or spread unverified information or rumors on social media.
Police take man into custody to control the situation
When a large crowd gathered, police also arrived at the scene and intervened. To prevent the situation from escalating, police took the man into custody. Police stated that the accused, named Altaf, is a resident of Bidar district in the neighboring state of Karnataka. In this case, police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for unlawful entry into a place of worship and for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Police reported that he was first produced before a city court and sent to judicial custody.
BJP terms the incident ‘blasphemy’
Authorities stated they are investigating the accused’s past record and history, and further action will be taken strictly according to the law. The incident has drawn protests from the BJP, Hindu advocacy groups, and temple devotees. The BJP has called the incident of the man defecating and urinating inside the temple premises shameful. The state BJP president visited the temple and termed the incident ‘blasphemy’. In a post on social media platform X, he attacked the state’s ruling Congress party, alleging it is competing with Bangladesh and Pakistan in attacks on Hindus.
BJP’s attack on the ruling Congress
The BJP leader wrote on X, ‘Visited the Katta Maisamma temple. In Telangana, Congress is competing with Bangladesh and Pakistan over who can go further in attacks on Hindus. While I respect human rights, language of ‘sar tan se juda’ (beheading) is spoken from the other side, so the person who desecrated the holy Katta Maisamma temple by urinating inside the complex should be encountered. I am also surprised by the silence of Congress, BRS, and pseudo-secular media on this issue. BJP in Telangana will not remain a mute spectator. We will fight on the streets to protect Hindu religion, temples, and dignity. Hindus will not be silenced. No compromise will be made on faith.’
