Today, it serves as a vital commercial center and gateway to the modern King Abdulaziz Port.

Al-Ahsa

Al-Ahsa is a vast oasis and historical region in eastern Saudi Arabia, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its unique landscape of gardens, canals, and ancient settlements. Its history dates back over 7,000 years, serving as a crucial hub on ancient trade routes and later as a major center for the early Islamic empires. Today, it is celebrated for its rich cultural heritage, traditional date palm groves, and archaeological sites like the Qasr Ibrahim fortress.

Riyadh

Riyadh is the capital and largest city of Saudi Arabia, serving as the nation’s political, financial, and administrative center. Historically a walled oasis town and the historic seat of the Al Saud dynasty, it transformed from a modest desert settlement into a modern metropolis following the discovery of oil in the 20th century, which fueled its rapid expansion and development.

Makkah

Makkah (Mecca) is the holiest city in Islam, located in present-day Saudi Arabia. It is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad and the site of the Kaaba, the most sacred shrine in Islam, which Muslims believe was built by the Prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael. Every year, millions of Muslims perform the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah, a mandatory religious duty that traces its rituals back to these ancient origins.

Madinah

Madinah, officially known as Medina, is a city in western Saudi Arabia revered as the second holiest city in Islam. It is historically significant as the site where the Prophet Muhammad migrated to in 622 CE (an event known as the Hijrah), establishing it as the first capital of the Islamic community. The city is home to the Prophet’s Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi), which contains his tomb and is a major pilgrimage site.

Jeddah

Jeddah is a major port city on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast, historically serving as the gateway for Muslim pilgrims traveling to Mecca. Its historic core, Al-Balad, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its distinctive multi-story houses built from coral stone and adorned with ornate wooden balconies (rawashin). Founded as a fishing village over 2,500 years ago, it flourished from the 7th century onward due to its pivotal role in trade and pilgrimage.

Abha

Abha is the capital of Asir Province in southwestern Saudi Arabia, a historic city situated in the fertile highlands of the Sarawat Mountains. It served as a key regional hub for ancient trade routes and was historically the seat of the Asir emirate, known for its distinctive mud-brick and stone architecture. Today, it is a popular summer destination, celebrated for its cool climate, traditional festivals, and the nearby Al-Soudah Park.

Hail

Hail is a historic city and region in northern Saudi Arabia, known for its ancient rock art and as a crossroads for historic trade routes. It is traditionally associated with the legendary pre-Islamic Arabian poets and the powerful 19th-century Emirate of the Al Rashid dynasty, which rivaled the House of Saud. Today, it serves as a regional capital and a gateway to the deserts and archaeological sites of northern Arabia.
