Chennai Fog: Dense fog over Chennai caused severe disruptions at the airport, with many flights being canceled and diverted due to reduced visibility, leading to delays in several operations and leaving numerous passengers stranded. Road conditions have also worsened, leading to traffic jams and causing concern among commuters.
Due to poor visibility, 6 flights were rerouted, causing inconvenience at the airport, while 15 earlier scheduled flights were delayed. By the afternoon, 25 additional flights were affected due to the adverse weather, further complicating the situation.
Flights were delayed on many domestic routes, including from Delhi, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tuticorin, Vijayawada, Andaman, Lunduan, and Singapore due to the prevailing fog.
Both Air India and IndiGo have provided comprehensive support to passengers to ease the inconvenience caused by the flight delays and reroutes.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts indicate that the fog and haze will persist throughout major parts of Tamil Nadu and Telangana, possibly disrupting more air travel. Meanwhile, strong northwesterly flows in Andhra Pradesh are also causing continued weather disturbances.
The intense fog in Chennai has significantly impacted the visibility of drivers, further complicating road conditions and causing additional delays in traffic movement. Road users are advised to drive cautiously and maintain safe distances from other vehicles.
