The 82nd Hokkaido Shogi Championship and the 79th All Japan Amateur Shogi Meijin Tournament Hokkaido Qualifier began on the 20th at the Hokkaido Shogi Association Hall in Chuo Ward, Sapporo. On the first day, 32 participants representing 16 regions across Hokkaido competed up to the quarterfinals, with Hiroki Yokoyama (35, Sapporo region), a multiple-time national champion, among the four advancing to the semifinals.
