BYD showroom in Ciputat, South Tangerang, sealed by officials over alleged permit issues
BYD showroom in Ciputat, Tangsel sealed by Satpol PP officers.
The construction of a showroom in the Cipayung area, South Tangerang City, Banten Province, was temporarily halted after being sealed by authorities. One of the reasons cited was the lack of a Building Construction Approval (PBG) permit.
The BYD showroom in Ciputat, Tangsel, was sealed by the South Tangerang Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Upon arrival at the site, workers were still seen continuing construction activities for the Chinese electric car showroom.
The head of Satpol PP’s Regional Regulation Enforcement Division stated that the BYD showroom building had not yet obtained the required PBG permit.
“We found construction activities without a permit, so we immediately sealed the site,” he said.
During the sealing process, no representatives of the building owner were present on-site. According to Satpol PP, the owner claimed that the PBG permit was still being processed.
However, since construction had already begun, enforcement action had to be taken by the South Tangerang Satpol PP officers.
“We are enforcing Regional Regulation No. 1 of 2023. The administrative sanction we imposed is a temporary halt to construction activities,” he explained.
The sealed building was previously a Carrefour outlet. Plans indicated that the location would be converted into a BYD showroom, office, and workshop.
Since renovations began, some residents had complained about irregular working hours.
The local village head stated that they had never received any permit documents from BYD.
Even when representatives visited the village office, they did not bring any required administrative documents.
“We never received ID cards, CVs, tax identification numbers, or any other documents. We have not even met the management directly, only security personnel,” the village head said.
Residents were initially told that the building would only be used for car sales.
However, the situation on the ground was different. “Now, it’s undergoing massive renovations, and the working hours are unclear,” they added.
The village administration and residents agreed to oppose the BYD showroom construction until official documents were submitted.
