An earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 4.2 shook the Sukabumi Regency area, West Java, on Sunday around 11:47 AM local time.

Analysis results indicate that the earthquake had a magnitude of M 4.2. The epicenter was located at coordinates 7.74 S and 106.49 E, specifically in the ocean at a distance of 83 km southwest of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, at a depth of 12 km.

“Based on the epicenter location and hypocenter depth, the earthquake was a shallow type caused by undersea fault activity,” said the Head of the Regional Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency.

According to reports from residents, the earthquake’s impact was felt in the Surade and Ciracap areas of Sukabumi with an intensity of III on the MMI scale. The tremors were distinctly felt indoors, resembling the vibration of a passing truck.

“However, as of now, there have been no reports of building damage caused by the earthquake,” he added.

“As of 12:00 PM local time, monitoring results have not detected any aftershock activity,” he stated.

The public is urged to remain calm and not be influenced by unverified rumors.

“Ensure official information is obtained only from verified communication channels,” he concluded.
