The Tourism Development Fund – the national enabler for the tourism sector – concluded the “Discover Beyond the City” tour under the patronage of Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al Madinah Region.

The tour was organized in cooperation with 12 partners from the public and private sectors, as part of the Fund’s series of tours aimed at enhancing communication with investors and entrepreneurs across various regions of the Kingdom, showcasing promising investment opportunities in the tourism sector, and enabling economically sustainable projects in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

The tour, hosted at the Al Madinah Chamber headquarters under the slogan “And With You It Thrives,” witnessed broad attendance exceeding 400 visitors including interested parties, investors, public and private sector officials, entrepreneurs, as well as specialists and stakeholders in the tourism sector.

The tour featured several dialogue sessions, most notably the “Invest in Al Madinah” session with representatives from the Tourism Development Fund, Ministry of Tourism, Al Madinah Development Authority, Al Madinah Municipality, and Al Madinah Chamber, which discussed the region’s investment components and tourism sector development initiatives.

The “Impact of Financing Programs from the Tourism Development Fund” session included participation from Saudi financing company “Lendo” and “Tathkar Rahal” Foundation, showcasing the Fund’s financing programs to support micro, small, and medium enterprises.

The tour featured presentations of several success stories, most notably the “Al Mughaisilah Neighborhood” project which highlighted the project’s experience and the Fund’s role in enabling it, along with the “Knowledge City Forum” project as one of the most prominent qualitative projects in Al Madinah.

The tour concluded with the “Impact of Programs from the Tourism Growth Center – the Fund’s non-financial enabling arm – and Abyat Company” session, which showcased success stories of young entrepreneurs and the Fund’s role in supporting them through non-financial programs and initiatives.

Coinciding with the tour launch, the accompanying exhibition featured entrepreneur pavilions showcasing innovative projects and qualitative initiatives, along with the organization of 3 workshops covering aspects of financing, entrepreneurship, and tourism project development.

Tourism Development Fund

The Tourism Development Fund is not a specific place or cultural site, but a financial institution typically established by a government to support and invest in tourism infrastructure and projects. Its history involves being created as a strategic tool to stimulate economic growth, often by funding the construction of hotels, resorts, and other visitor facilities to enhance a country’s tourism appeal. The fund’s purpose is to develop the tourism sector, rather than being a historical or cultural destination itself.

Al Madinah Region

The Al Madinah Region, located in western Saudi Arabia, is one of the most significant cultural and religious sites in Islam. It is home to the city of Medina, the second holiest city in Islam, which became the base of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and the first capital of the Caliphate after his migration (Hijrah) from Mecca in 622 CE. The city’s focal point is the Prophet’s Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi), which contains Muhammad’s tomb and is a major pilgrimage site.

Saudi Vision 2030

Saudi Vision 2030 is a strategic framework launched in 2016 to reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil, diversify its economy, and develop public service sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, recreation, and tourism. The vision is built upon three main themes: a vibrant society, a thriving economy, and an ambitious nation, with goals that include strengthening Islamic and national identity and increasing non-oil government revenue. It represents a transformative socio-economic blueprint for the country’s future.

Al Madinah Municipality

The Al Madinah Municipality is the local government body responsible for managing and developing the urban environment of Medina, one of Islam’s holiest cities in Saudi Arabia.
