An elderly person and a student died after the bus they were riding in plunged off a cliff in Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
According to reports, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Dumingag stated that the bus fell off the cliff after the driver allegedly experienced brake failure.
It is believed that the bus driver swerved to avoid a tricycle ahead, intending to hit a tree, but instead went over the cliff.
Out of the 36 passengers, 29 were students. They were on their way to a military camp to attend a graduation ceremony for the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.
Among the injured passengers were the bus driver and the conductor.
The bus driver is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
