Hyderabad: Expressing concern over the incident where several people fell ill after consuming adulterated toddy in the Balanagar Excise Police area of the city, the Excise Minister visited NIMS Hospital to meet the victims.

The minister interacted with the victims during his visit to NIMS yesterday, boosting their morale and inquiring about their health from the doctors. Speaking to the media afterward, the minister stated that several people began reporting similar symptoms after consuming toddy. Upon receiving the information, the Excise Police and other departments acted promptly, admitting all victims to the hospital. The minister explained that the similar complaints clearly indicate this is a case of adulterated liquor. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Those who endanger lives will be punished

The minister reported that suspects have been detained for questioning, and related toddy centers have been sealed. He issued a stern warning, stating that those who play with people’s lives will not be spared under any circumstances. Samples of the toddy collected from the scene have been sent to the Excise Chemical Lab, while patients’ samples have been forwarded to the Forensic Lab. Based on the reports, strict criminal action will be taken, and license revocation procedures will also be initiated. He added that all possible measures will be considered to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.

Present at the occasion were the Excise Commissioner, the Director of NIMS, the Head of the Nephrology Department, and other duty doctors.
