73-Year-Old Laxmanbhai Mitana from Valsad Donates Liver and Two Kidneys; This Marks the 80th Organ Donation at Surat Civil Hospital
Surat. Surat’s New Civil Hospital has once again demonstrated humanity by completing its 80th successful organ donation. The family of 73-year-old brain-dead Laxmanbhai Mitana from Kalai Gam in Umargam taluka of Valsad district adopted a humanitarian perspective of organ donation even in this moment of grief, which will give new life to three needy people.
Laxmanbhai Mitana fell while installing tarpaulin at his home due to dizziness and suffered serious injuries. Due to his critical condition, he was referred from Valsad to Surat New Civil Hospital. Here, after intensive treatment, he was declared brain dead on October 10.
The transplant team explained the importance of organ donation to the Mitana family.
Laxmanbhai’s daughter and family members accepted this decision with heavy hearts, saying “If my father’s organs can give someone new life even in his final moments, we are happy. If someone else receives these organs, my father will continue to live and we will remember that he lives on in someone in need.”
The late Laxmanbhai’s liver and both kidneys were donated and transported to Ahmedabad IKD Hospital for transplantation. Under the guidance of the medical superintendent, medical staff, nursing staff, security personnel, cleaning staff, and volunteers worked hard to make this process successful.
