From October 1st to October 5th, the “Centennial Bouquet” event commemorating the Shuka Sho [GI] and Kikuka Sho [GI] races is being held at Umeda BIGMAN in Kita-ku, Osaka City. We had the special opportunity to visit!

This event celebrates the 100th anniversary of Kyoto Racecourse in 2025 and promotes Kyoto Racecourse’s two major autumn GI races, the “Shuka Sho” and “Kikuka Sho,” in Osaka’s Umeda district.

Colorful art objects are displayed at the venue!

Umeda BIGMAN

Umeda BIGMAN is a giant public sculpture of a robot head located in Osaka’s Umeda district. Created by artist Taro Okamoto and unveiled in 1983, it was part of the “Tetsujin 28-go” project, named after the classic manga and anime giant robot. The sculpture serves as a nostalgic and popular landmark, celebrating post-war Japanese pop culture.

Kyoto Racecourse

Kyoto Racecourse is a major horse racing venue located in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, Japan, operated by the Japan Racing Association. It first opened in 1925 and was later rebuilt and relocated to its current, modern site in 1997. The racecourse is particularly famous for hosting prestigious races like the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup and the Kikuka Sho (Japanese St. Leger), one of the country’s classic Triple Crown races.

Shuka Sho

I am unable to find any information on a place or cultural site named “Shuka Sho.” It is possible that the name may be misspelled, from a very localized context, or is not a widely recognized cultural or historical site. Could you please verify the spelling or provide any additional context?

Kikuka Sho

“Kikuka Sho” refers to the Japanese Order of the Chrysanthemum, the highest and most prestigious Japanese order. Established in 1876 by Emperor Meiji, it is exclusively awarded for exceptional merit and service to the nation, typically to royalty and heads of state. The order’s name and insignia feature the chrysanthemum, the imperial seal of Japan.
