The death toll in the collapse of the prayer hall building at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Buduran, Sidoarjo, has increased to 3 people.

According to data as of Tuesday at 11:00 AM local time, the total number of identified victims reached 100 people. The breakdown shows 26 people are still hospitalized, 70 people have been discharged, 1 patient was referred from Siti Hajar Hospital to Sakinah Islamic Hospital in Mojokerto, and 3 people have died.

All three passed away after receiving hospital treatment. Two victims died at Dr. R.T. Notopuro Regional Hospital in Sidoarjo. They were Mochammad Mashudul Haq (14 years old), a resident of Kali Kendal, Dukuh Pakis, Surabaya, and Muhammad Soleh (22) from Tanjung Pandan, Bangka Belitung. Meanwhile, the third victim died while being treated at Siti Hajar Islamic Hospital.

The director of Sidoarjo Regional Hospital stated that Muhammad Soleh was one of the most severely injured victims in the collapse of the prayer hall building at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School.

“The patient experienced compression in the lower body and required intensive care before ultimately passing away while being referred to Sidoarjo Regional Hospital,” he said.

He mentioned that Soleh had to undergo amputation at the scene due to the severe nature of his injuries which were life-threatening. “The orthopedic and anesthesia teams performed amputation of the left arm because the victim was trapped under building debris,” he stated.

He revealed that Soleh was a student at Al Khoziny Buduran and attended the university managed by the boarding school. Currently, Soleh was in his fifth semester. “We immediately arranged for Soleh’s body to be flown to Bangka Belitung,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the East Java Governor added that the joint team consisting of the Regional Disaster Management Agency of East Java, Sidoarjo BPBD, National Search and Rescue Agency, military and police forces, and volunteers continue to maximize search efforts for victims of the Al-Khoziny prayer hall collapse in Buduran, Sidoarjo.

Heavy equipment has been prepared but cannot be used yet due to concerns about causing additional collapses. Rescue teams still rely on oxygen supplies, water, and detection equipment to communicate with victims under the rubble.

To help families obtain information, the East Java Provincial Government together with the boarding school administrators have opened a Crisis Center at the pesantren location. “The Crisis Center has a cross-agency team and boarding school administrators who facilitate parents asking about their children’s condition,” explained the Governor.

Several hospitals have been prepared to receive victims, including Siti Hajar Islamic Hospital, R.T. Notopuro Regional Hospital, Delta Surya Hospital, Sheila Medika Hospital, UNAIR Hospital, and Sidoarjo Regional Hospital. The East Java Provincial Government will cover treatment costs for victims outside regional hospitals, while Sidoarjo Regional Hospital costs will be covered by the district government.

The Governor emphasized that all medical teams including EMT, Police DVI, and volunteers remain on standby in the field. “We all mourn this tragedy. Going forward, a comprehensive evaluation will be conducted to make student learning and worship spaces safer,” she concluded.
